If your monitor is not big enough to provide enough space on the taskbar, you can free some space by hiding the icons in the notification area that you don't use frequently. To to this :
Right-click on your taskbar -> Properties -> and then check the "Hide inactive icons" checkbox, you can also which icon to hide or show by clicking on the customize button.
